Antoine Cossé

Antoine Cossè was born in Paris and participated, while still a teenager, in the student competition of the Angoulême festival. At the age of 20 he moved to London where he studied at Camberwell College of Arts. He published several comics in European and North American anthologies and in 2012 he released his first graphic novel Kiddo. He then began working closely with Breakdown Press with whom he published J.1337, NWAI and Mutiny Bay, which would become his best known graphic novel and was translated into French by L'employé du moi. His last book, Showtime, was published in 2015 by Breakdown Press.

with Antoine Cossé

The work of Antoine Cossé is elusive: between pirate mutinies and long car rides in the company of mysterious magicians, his visual approach is ever-changing and modern. Thanks to his mastering of black and white, his use of silence as a narrative device and the existential ambiguity that pervades his stories, Cossé manages to convey a palpable tension, so that even in the most pervasive calm it feels like the explosion is just around the corner.
